turning a warehouse into a home

zjbuilt turned an 1800 sq. ft 1941 warehouse into a fully custom 3 Bedroom, 3 bathroom home in 18 months.

Over the course of an expansive 18-month project, ZJBUILT assumed full ownership of the design-build lifecycle, starting from inception and culminating in the successful completion of the project. This involved proficiently managing subcontractors and executing a significant portion of the work internally.

The project also featured a range of custom work, showcasing ZJBUILT's craftsmanship and attention to detail. This included the creation of custom built-ins, a vanity, kitchen table, and bench. Notably, ZJBUILT salvaged a 3-basin sink discovered during demolition and repurposed it for the kitchen sink. Solar panels and electric heating were added, resulting in $0 energy bills in the summer and very low energy bills in the winter.

The project incorporated distinctive touches such as the use of locally sourced beetle kill pine throughout the space for wall coverings, trim, and shelving, highlighting ZJBUILT's commitment to quality and sustainability.

The original building had been many things before it became a home. Previous uses included a church, a Vietnamese restaurant and a bodega. We even found an old cattle well in the living room when we tore up the floor!
